You Will Make the Difference

October 12, 2005

Please read this:

My fellow schoolmates,

Letter_LHL.jpgI would like to share with you here a letter from Professor Li Huilin (李慧琳) regarding our 20-year reunion and the recent Teachers’ Day activity. I strongly feel that the letter is not only addressed to me but also addressed to all of us.

Professor Li Huilin was still recovering from her heart operation when she came to our reunion. She lives in the southwest area of Shanghai, which means she had to go across the city diagnostically to come to meet us in Shangwai. She wrote this letter while still trying to fight the cataract disease of her eyes. I believe there are many teachers who have true concerns and loves for their students like Professor Li. I was extremely surprised to see at our reunion that Professor Wang Zhongmin(汪忠民) remembers clearly all the names of the students whom he recruited from AnHui province 24 years ago!

When we started to prepare for our reunion, it took us no time to collect the names of all the fellow students. However, it took us quite a while to gather the names of our teachers and unfortunately the list we have today is not a complete list. Lots of our schoolmates think it is a shame. I feel the same way. We took too many things for granted while we were young; nevertheless, we still have the time to make it up. That is why the Beijing folks proposed this year’s Teachers’ Day activity.

In addition to that, I would like to make another proposal here: Say hello to our teachers regularly!

All you need to do is to squeeze out a little of your busy time, send a greeting, an email, pay a visit, pick up the phone etc. Whenever you greet your families and friends during holidays, please do the same for our teachers (especially for the retired ones). They probably don’t remember who you are, but you will make the difference in their hearts and make them feel the true rewarding of their life time career.

A file containing our teachers’ contact information will be prepared and sent out via email shortly. If you don’t see it in your mailbox in 2 weeks, please send inquiry to permalink81#hotmail.com or rubyczd#yahoo.com.

Best Regard to All

Zhao Changhong

Below is the re-typed letter by Zhao Changhong and attached above is the scanned photocopy of the letter.

September 18, 2005

Touching writing from Ruby Zhao (Changhong). I hope the photo I added could serve to depict the wording…

the_moon.jpg还记得英语系的那栋红砖楼吗?

Tingting’s Letter To All

July 23, 2005

ztt.jpgThis is a letter from Zhang Tingting to all through Tony Shi (Zenghu). We are thankful to Tingting for her generous permission to let us publish it here. We are glad that we have managed to collect some of the photos of our schoolmates metioned in Tingting’s letter. These photos were all taken at our recent reunion. Thanks to Juliet Zhao (Lijuan) and Ruby Zhao (Changhong) for the photos.

Dear Tony,

I am suffering from an IT breakdown for the moment. As a result, my China Links address is not working. And my Chinese software has all disappeared somehow. I am therefore hoping to reach all our friends through you, particularly those who might have emailed me after the fantastic Shanghai gathering and the dreadful London bombing.

Yes, we have survived the suicide bombings. Life goes on pretty much as normal now.

lgm.jpgMy toddler twins and I left Shanghai on 3rd July. We took about five days to overcome the jetlag. But I have been thinking about our reunion and all the old class/schoolmates who turned up. It is such a wonderful time that we have had. Even better than 20cw.jpg years ago when we were studying together. Just think how many conversations I ever had with Li Guoming then? Or Chen Wei for that matter? I honestly can think of none. But we shared jokes and laughters on Friday 1st July like long lost friends. It is a great feeling.

ml.jpgI am also amazed how some of us don’t seem to have changed wd.jpgat all physically after 20 years. Mo Li looks no more than 25; Wang Dong still looks like a teenager pretending to be a grown-up! More importantly, almost all of us seem to have come through life’s ups and downs as positive, caring andwxy.jpg strong characters. I will always remember Wu Xiaoyuan’s moving speech. And I hope you have enough time to enjoy your baby, wf.jpgWang Fang. Each of you will in your own way be my inspiration for many years to come.

I regret that I was unable to attend the second day’s gathering due to a very important appointment. I do feel that two to three days give us the time to know each other better. For anyone who is thinking of attending the next reunion, I recommend it, strongly.

So much for now, If you are visiting this part of the world some day, give us a shout.

All the best,

Tingting
